Design of the JBL Tune 120

The JBL Tune 120 have an attractive design and come in various colors, so you can choose the one that best suits your taste. They are small, although they protrude a little in the ears. They come with three silicone ear cushions for a perfect fit. They do not have IP certification against water or dust, but you can use them while exercising and they will stay in place.

They feel comfortable and lightweight. They invade the ear canal a bit, and this can be annoying for long sessions, but this is normal for In-Ear headphones. The cups of the JBL Tune 120 headphones are attached with magnets, and can be stored in any pocket. In addition, like all the best True Wireless headsets, they come with a case that doubles as a charging base.

Controls

Both cups of the JBL Tune 120 headphones integrate touch-sensitive control panels to operate playback functions. The controls are easy to use and respond well to touch. Press and hold either the right or left earphone for two seconds to turn them on, five seconds to turn them off. Touching the left cup once moves the song forward, and twice rewinds it. Likewise, the right cup allows you to play, pause and answer calls.

By double tapping the right cup, you can also activate your smartphone's personal assistant, while holding it down for three seconds mutes or activates the microphone. Unfortunately, they do not allow you to manage the volume, but this is not a major drawback since you can control it with the phone.

Connectivity

The True Wireless JBL Tune 120 headphones work with Bluetooth 4.2. They have a very decent wireless range, and we did not notice any connectivity issues when we tested them.

They do not offer the advanced features of the more expensive True Wireless, but the wireless connection is stable. They also do not work with the JBL Headphones application. This is unfortunate, as you will not be able to equalize the sound.

They're great for playing music but have noticeable latency, so we do not recommend them for watching videos or playing games. And since they only work with Bluetooth, you can connect them to a PC, but they are not compatible with PS4 or Xbox.

Autonomy of the JBL Tune 120

JBL claims a battery life of approximately four hours. We found this to be true, although the capacity drops if you use very high volume levels. The battery life is not the highest on the market, but it's normal for a True Wireless headset.

In addition, the JBL Tune 120 come with a charging case/base that gives you four full extra charges, for a total of 16 hours. The case is compact, and is charged with the micro-USB cable included in the package.

Sound quality

They integrate 5.8mm dynamic drivers that work with a frequency response of 20-20kHz. They don't work with the JBL app, so you won't be able to access equalizers like those offered by Bose, Sony or Sennheiser headphones. That said, the sound profile is well balanced and offers decent neutrality.

Bass and treble stand out in the mix and do not distort, although the separation between the different tonalities leaves something to be desired. The audio is a bit soft, and the details are not the best, but this is to be expected considering the price.

They do not have active noise cancellation , so they only passively isolate you. That said, if you find a suitable fit with the ear pads, they reduce external noise considerably. You can use the JBL Tune 120 headphones in the office or at the gym, and no one will hear what you hear.

Overall, the sound offered by the JBL Tune 120 is not the best, but it's decent for a True Wireless headset in this price range. What we do regret is the quality of the microphone. Voice recordings sound weak and lose detail. It works well in quiet environments, but it doesn't separate external noise from voices well, so we do not recommend using it in noisy environments. If you need to make a lot of calls, the JBL Tune 120 is not for you.
