Today we will talk about the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless, wireless headphones that are getting very good reviews among experts. These mid-range music headphones have been launched by the well-known German brand Sennheiser and represent the evolution of the old Sennheiser Momentum.
The German company has not wanted to lag behind in the Bluetooth headphones market and has made a clear improvement of its first version, which we now unravel. By the way, clarify that this model is also called Sennheiser HD1 Wireless, depending on the dealer prefers to call it one way or another.
Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Design
Simple and portable. One of the first features to highlight of the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless is its compact and foldable design that does not neglect the HiFi quality that is demanded of the models in its range. These features make them an option to consider for all music lovers looking for quality headphones to listen to music also outside their home, but without giving up the comfort of compact headphones.
On the practical side, the action buttons of the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless come on the base itself and have multifunction buttons. With them we will be able to interact with all the necessary functions. Aesthetically, the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless have the mark of the Teutonic brand: quality finishes in leather (in the headband) and imitation leather (in the pads) that some remind us of that rocker look so eighties.
The leatherette (PU) pads have a memory effect, which makes them more comfortable than average. These bluetooth headphones can be found in two colors with different finishes: ivory and black. The body of these wireless music headphones is metallic, with the imitation leather strap that we mentioned above.
Despite this, the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless and its weight (about 250gr), are not too heavy. As for the finish of the ear cushions, it should be noted that they are larger and thicker than those of its predecessor model (which we will discuss later in this article). This is a great improvement in comfort as they are comfortable enough to listen to music for hours without worrying about discomfort.
The height of these headphones for listening to music is adjustable since, as shown in the image, the headset can be raised and lowered through the metal chassis, which is a great help when it comes to storing them.
The strap is quite open, which together with what we have already mentioned, means that we do not have to worry about whether or not we will feel comfortable. These details make the difference and make us one of the best headphones on the market in its segment.
The main improvement of the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 over the previous model is in connectivity. As the name suggests, the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless is a wireless version of the previous model. The momentum 2.0 headphones feature Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity in the 2402 to 2480 mHz band.
In terms of connectivity, it should also be noted that they have NFC (Near Field Communication), like many cell phones. This allows to connect our transmitter (if it also has NFC) instantly just by bringing both devices close to each other (no need to pair through the bluetooth application).
One thing that will give you game is that the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless can be linked to two devices at once (although you can only play music from one of them at a time). If playback is started on a second transmitting device, the first device will be paused.
In addition to the wireless connection, they can be connected via their removable 3.5mm mini-jack cable with standard size (TRS 1/8) twist-lock. This allows it to connect to most sound devices and also allows you to have a plan B to continue using them when they run out of battery and you are away from home.
And it is here where we find one of the few drawbacks of these bluetooth headphones….
The jack is standard at one end (the one we will connect to our transmitting device) but somewhat smaller (2.5m) at the end that connects to the headphones. One feature to note is that it also allows you to listen to music via the USB cable, something that most headphones on the market do not allow.
The active noise cancellation of the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless has been achieved under the NoiseGard technology . It is proprietary to Sennheiser and is among the best on the market. The brand was developed for Lufthansa pilots. Those of us who have traveled by plane know that during the flight, and even with the improvements in aviation, a buzzing sound is perceived during the flight that intensifies in the aircraft cabins. This, added to the noise of the passengers themselves, can be very annoying when listening to music or watching a movie. To counteract and compensate for this noise, the brand developed Noisegard.
But how does active noise cancellation work?
Let’s try to answer this question without going too much into extremely technical details: The first thing you need to know is that a helmet, no matter how closed it is, will never achieve total isolation from the environment. And the more closed they are, the more uncomfortable they are to wear for long periods of time. So, if we can’t totally isolate the noise from the environment,
How can we compensate for this?
Thanks to a simple wave theory: a wave is cancelled by a wave of opposite phase. What we mean is that it would be enough to reproduce the ambient noise in opposite phase to be able to suppress it.Et voilà! This is how active noise cancellation works. In the case of NoiseGard for the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless, 4 microphones are placed in the headphones to pick up the ambient noise and reproduce it but in opposite phase. Thus, external noise is cancelled out. With the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 you will not get the level of silence that you can get with higher-end models, such as Bose’s QC35 II, but neither will you have the feeling of pressure that they produce.
Therefore, we believe they are a very good choice if you do not need such high levels of noise cancellation. To give you an idea, with the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless the noise of an airplane engine would be reduced to a small hum that would get lost in the music. Here is an article we wrote some time ago where we explain noise cancellation in detail and talk about other quality headphones that have this system incorporated. Please note: Active noise can cellation cannot be disabled in bluetooth mode.
How do the SennheiserMomentum 2.0 wireless sound?
In terms of volume, the sound pressure level of the Sennheiser Momentum reaches 113dB, which gives us enough slack to know that we will not fall short of volume in any situation. Much less if we take into account that thanks to active noise cancellation we will not need to compensate for outside noise by turning up the volume. THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is within the average for mid-range headphones and is more than sufficient for a full experience. ( 1kHz/ 100dB SPL): < 0.5 % (Less is better)
Quite a lot of autonomy. The lithium polymer battery has 600mAh. It is not removable and is recharged via USB through the headset itself. This battery has a non-continuous use autonomy of about 22 hours with noise cancellation activated. The battery charge is quite fast, about 3h for the maximum (although a first charge of 6 h is recommended). It is important to remember that the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless also has a 3.5 mm mini jack input , allowing you to listen to music through the cable even if you have no battery in the headphones.
The hands-free microphone has also improved compared to the first model. It has one microphone per pad and incorporates Voice Max software that helps reduce ambient sound.
The Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless are a great option to consider if you are looking for a good headphones to enjoy high quality music in noisy environments or while traveling. Its battery, although not one of the largest on the market, should be more than enough for most users. Interested? Check out the best prices on Amazon.
